Hanko earned his living as an illustrator, mostly of novels intended for women. However, he also made a series of woodblock prints depicting flowers and (or) birds. Twelve examples from this series are shown below. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Typical of Japanese artists working in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Hanko drew his picture subjects accurately.
